Past Creative Projects
Students from Westminster Academy
Westminster Academy
From April-July 2009 Dance Physics worked with B-TEC First Students from Westminster Academy. The project consisted of a Lecture Demonstration by the company, followed by a 12 week period of creative workshops and choreography. The project culminated in a performance event.

National Portrait Gallery project
National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery's young peoples programme is dedicated to working with young people outside of school in a wide variety of ways, exploring aspects of portraiture in exciting and innovative ways, drawing inspiration from collections or temporary exhibitions. Dance Physics were commissioned by the Gallery to deliver a day of creative dance leading to a performance. The inspiration for this work was the recent Jerwood Portrait Commission of Contemporary dancer Akram Khan by Davish Fakhr. Entitled Navarasa (Nine Emotions), students were encouraged to use movements as well as vocal expressions to capture the mood of the portrait. The piece was performed on site at the gallery in front of the portrait and was watched by a range of people visiting the gallery.

Lewisham College touring company in rehearsal
Lewisham College Dance Touring Company
The Dance Touring Company is formed of students on the Access to Dance and Dance studies courses at Lewisham College. The company gives students work experience/touring into schools in the spring for two weeks and then perform work at the annual college performance showcase. The company has been invited to perform at various youth platforms and festivals recently and in the past. Staff and visiting professional choreographers create company repertoire working in a range of styles from contemporary, dance theatre and jazz .
Dance Physics choreographed a piece on the company for their spring 09 tour. Working with 10 dancers the piece 'Termination Shock' explored the dynamic qualities of acceleration and deceleration and the flow of movement between two fixed objects, this was juxtaposed against the qualities of free running and contemporary dance.

Greenwich Dance Agency (gDA)
"gDA commissioned Dance Physics in summer 2008 to create a dance film involving a group of boys from Woolwich Polytechnic Secondary School. This was to mark the culmination of a year long project which was funded by Barclays Capital. gDA recruited Dance Physics because they were confident of their ability to create a high quality piece that would capture the excellent work that had taken place throughout the year.
In the run up to the project Dance Physics readily made themselves available to support the school with both recruiting students and promoting the project. They developed an impressive piece of dance during an intensive four day period. They challenged the participants physically through rigorous warm ups, developing movement through creative tasks and perfecting the participants' performance skills for camera. gDA, the school, and the participants were delighted with the final film.
The film has since been screened at professional dance events, such as the gDA Cabaret and at a PE conference in March 2009, to showcase excellent work with young people."
